FRESH START

To celebrate au pays des merveilles’ third birthday, I took a few days off to rethink the blog.  This resulted in a new lay-out with bigger photos and more white (always a plus in my book), an updated links section (on the right) and a Facebook page (I haven’t quite figured out why and what it will add to the blog, but we’ll see).  Let me know what you think!

For today, I’m leaving you with some random photos from the past months, that didn’t make it to the blog just yet.  But first: great news!  Remember my love for Lisbon?  If all goes well, I will be spending the first semester of next year in this amazing city.  That’s right, I’m going on erasmus!  If you missed out on my enthusiastic posts about my trip this summer, take a look here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.  (Told you I liked it there.)

Remember I told you about the street art by Strook, at the STUK art center in Leuven?  I found out weeks after it was made and went looking for it, but couldn’t find it and concluded it probably already disappeared due to Belgian’s superfine weather.  Then one day when I was blogging from the STUK café, I was looking through the window and suddenly noticed the art work.  I must have passed it hundreds of times, but never really noticed and therefor went looking in the wrong places.  Stupid, stupid me.  But I’m happy I did get to see it after all!

My owl obsessed sister turned 18, so I made her a cake.  It’s inspired by this cake and nowhere near as pretty, but I’m still pretty pleased with it.

I drew her a birthday card too.

I also made one for my grandfather.  I didn’t have my watercolors with me in Leuven, so I couldn’t make one like the cards I normally whip up in two seconds (I basically draw some bunting and splash some watercolor on it).  As a solution, I got creative with my left over model materials: cardboard, cadapac, balsa wood and all kinds of paper.  I think I was more excited about it then my grandfather was, but oh well.

I bought gnome shaped birthday candles at the grasshopper, which makes me happy every time I get to take them out for someone’s birthday.  I also have candles shaped like carrousel horses, which get me even more excited.  So so good.

This is just a random photo of flags in the tiensestraat in Leuven.  They put them up last summer for some kind of street festivities, but they never took them down.  Makes me happy.

I visited the Brussels Vintage Market hosted by Elle, at K-nal, but I was tired and broke and there were too many people to be able to take a proper look around.  I went there with the intention to take some photos for a blogpost, but ended up spending most of my time outside next to the water, enjoying the sun.  I still wanted to show you these lovely notebooks (the pages were made from vintage photos, pretty cool) and beautiful golden tote bags.

When enjoying the sun outside of K-Nal, I took a photo of the many construction cranes that surrounded us (seriously, there were eleven cranes around us).

And to finish this post: a photo of the cupcakes me and my sister made for our family’s Easter lunch.  That’s enough randomness for one post!  From tomorrow on, you can expect au pays des merveilles to be back in full force.  Happy Easter everyone!
